Targeted Diagnostic Marker for Upper Gastrointestinal Bleeding

While hemoglobin is rapidly degraded by hydrochloric acid and pepsin in the stomach, transferrin is an iron-binding glycoprotein that exhibits exceptional biochemical stability across digestive pH shifts. Detecting fecal transferrin enables sensitive, non-invasive identification of upper GI lesions.

Stable Biomarker

Human Transferrin (TRF)

Serum protein released into the digestive lumen during vascular mucosal disruption. Retains antibody-binding epitopes throughout intestinal transit.

  • Resistant to stomach acid and proteolysis
  • Calibrated 10 ng/mL cut-off threshold
  • Specific to human transferrin
Gastric Pathology

Gastric Ulcers & Neoplasms

Aids in identifying upper digestive mucosal injury, peptic ulcer disease, gastric adenocarcinomas, and bleeding esophageal varices.

  • Overcomes false-negative FOB results
  • Guides non-emergency endoscopy (EGD)
  • Reduces late-stage gastric cancer mortality
Clinical Utility

Rapid Bedside Triage

Provides actionable non-invasive gastrointestinal evaluation within 5 to 10 minutes, streamlining clinical triage for patients with iron deficiency anemia.

  • No dietary preparation required
  • Clean collection tube sampling
  • CE-IVD and ISO 13485 certified

Standard Operating Procedure

4-Step Procedure for Fecal Transferrin Readout

Rapid point-of-care protocol designed for outpatient clinics, diagnostic laboratories, and gastroenterology departments.

1

Specimen Collection

Unscrew the tube cap. Insert the applicator stick into 3 different sites of the stool specimen to harvest approximately 50 mg of feces.

2

Buffer Mixing

Re-insert the applicator stick into the extraction buffer tube, tighten the cap, and shake vigorously for 15 seconds to release transferrin into the solution.

3

Dispensing

Break off the dropper tip nozzle of the cap. Invert the tube and dispense exactly 2 drops (approx. 80 µL) into the cassette sample well (S).

4

Visual Readout

Observe diagnostic bands between 5 and 10 minutes under bright lighting. Do not read or record test results after 15 minutes.

Visual Readout Guide

Diagnostic Interpretation Matrix

Visual band patterns provide rapid, clear diagnostic indication of upper GI hemorrhage.

Positive Differential Findings

Appearance of the procedural Control line (C) and Test line (T).

Positive (C Line + T Line)
Transferrin detected (≥10 ng/mL). Indicates upper GI mucosal bleeding.
Faint Test Line (Low-Level Bleed)
Any distinct band at T indicates occult bleeding. Directs gastroscopy.

Negative & Invalid Results

Quality control validation and procedural guidelines.

Negative (C Line Only)
Only C line visible. Fecal transferrin not detected above 10 ng/mL.
Invalid (No C Line)
Absence of Control line indicates incorrect technique or faulty strip. Retest.

Contact Clinical Specialist
Why use Transferrin instead of FOB alone?

Transferrin resists enzymatic digestion in the stomach and duodenum, enabling accurate detection of upper GI bleeds that result in false-negative FOB hemoglobin tests.

What is the limit of detection?

The cut-off sensitivity is 10 ng/mL of human transferrin in buffer.

Is dietary restriction necessary?

No dietary restrictions are required.

What is included in the packaging?

25 test cassettes, 25 collection tubes with buffer, and instructions for use.
