Pediatric Gastroenteritis Triage

Rapid Differentiation of Acute Viral Diarrhea

Rotavirus and enteric Adenovirus (types 40/41) are the primary viral causes of severe dehydrating diarrhea in infants and young children worldwide. Rapid multiplex testing enables immediate rehydration triage and halts inappropriate antibiotic use.

Pediatric Triage

Critical Infantile Dehydration

Rapid detection identifies viral etiology early, prompting oral rehydration therapy (ORT) or IV fluids before severe electrolyte depletion ensues.

  • Frontline tool for pediatric emergency departments
  • Eliminates empirical antibiotic overuse
  • Clear visual distinction between Rota and Adeno
Dual Detection

Single Cassette Multiplexing

Two distinct diagnostic test lines on a single chromatographic membrane deliver comprehensive viral screening from one stool collection tube.

  • Detects Rotavirus VP6 group-specific antigen
  • Detects Enteric Adenovirus hexon antigen (serotypes 40/41)
  • Detects viral co-infections in high-risk infants
Hospital Infection Control

Nosocomial Outbreak Prevention

Essential for pediatric inpatient wards, daycares, and hospitals across the UAE to enforce contact isolation and prevent nosocomial viral spread.

  • Clean, closed collection tube system
  • Minimizes aerosol and fecal biohazard exposure
  • Same-day dispatch across Dubai & Abu Dhabi

Standard Operating Procedure

4-Step Rapid Diagnostic Protocol

Standardized procedural steps for stool specimen preparation and assay loading.

1

Fecal Collection

Unscrew collection tube cap. Insert grooved applicator stick into 3 different sites of stool sample (~50 mg, 1/4 pea size). For liquid stool, aspirate 50 µL.

2

Buffer Extraction

Re-insert stick into the tube containing extraction buffer. Tighten cap and shake vigorously for 15 seconds to ensure complete fecal dissolution.

3

Cassette Loading

Break off the dropper tip. Invert collection tube vertically and dispense exactly 2 to 3 drops (approx. 80 µL) of the sample extract into sample well (S).

4

10-Min Readout

Start timer. Read visual test bands at exactly 10 minutes. Do not interpret after 15 minutes as chromatographic drying may induce faint background lines.

Result Interpretation Guide

Clear Colorimetric Result Windows

Visual interpretation criteria for point-of-care pediatric teams.

Diagnostic Result Interpretation

Evaluate lines appearing in Control (C), Rotavirus (R), and Adenovirus (A) regions.

Rotavirus Positive
Colored lines at Control (C) and R line. Indicates Rotavirus infection.
Adenovirus Positive
Colored lines at Control (C) and A line. Indicates enteric Adenovirus infection.
Dual Co-Infection
Colored lines at C, R, and A simultaneously. Indicates dual viral infection.
Negative (No Viral Antigen)
Single colored line at Control (C). Neither R nor A line appears.
Invalid Test
No line at Control (C). Insufficient volume or procedural error. Retest with fresh kit.

Pediatric Clinical Action Protocols

Evidence-based clinical triage pathways.

Rotavirus Protocol
Initiate immediate oral rehydration therapy (ORT) with low-osmolarity solution; monitor zinc supplementation.
Adenovirus Protocol
May have a longer clinical course (up to 10–14 days). Emphasize continuous fluid intake and electrolyte monitoring.
Antimicrobial Stewardship
Confirmed viral etiology eliminates need for antibiotics, protecting gut microbiome and preventing resistant strains.

Contact Clinical Specialist
Which Adenovirus serotypes does this fecal test detect?

The test incorporates monoclonal antibodies specific to enteric adenoviruses, particularly serotypes 40 and 41, which are the primary viral causes of infantile diarrhea.

Is this kit suitable for both solid and watery stool specimens?

Yes. The collection tube design accommodates solid stool using the spiral applicator stick and watery diarrhea using standard 50 µL transfer pipetting.

What is the clinical diagnostic accuracy compared to ELISA?

Clinical trials demonstrated >99% concordance with ELISA and RT-PCR, showing 99.1% sensitivity for Rotavirus and 100% sensitivity for Adenovirus.

What packaging configuration is supplied?

Each kit contains 25 individually sealed cassettes, 25 pre-filled extraction tubes with integrated collection sticks, and the illustrated package insert.
